Dancer Tess de Quincey and musicians Jim Denley & Dale Gorfinkel explore sonic and kinetic environments within a text by poet/vocalist Amanda Stewart and a laser installation by Neil Brandhorst.

This performance marks the first explorations of Earth Jurisprudence by the five artists. The individual disciplines come together and several ‘systems’ collide: hybrid rubber and polystyrene sound instruments; a voice that critiques our usage of words in relation to the world; swirling geometric laser fields. ‘Weather’ arises where these systems meet, and a dancer negotiates the space. She becomes a line as the laser outlines her contour. As the monumental planes of light are broken by the body, her shadow creates dark structures in the ‘world’.

The outcome of a two-week development period funded by the Music Board of the Australia Council for the Arts, this piece is the beginning of a collective practice that will be further developed.
