Background information on the Triple Alice Bodyweather Workshop

Bodyweather is a broad based and comprehensive training that embraces and builds on concepts of environment. It proposes a philosophical, but also practical strategy to the mind and body that is not just for 'professional' dancers or performance practitioners alone but is an open investigation that can be relevant for anyone interested in exploring the body.

This three-week intensive workshop encouraged sensory and experimental mappings of space - the landscape 100km nw of Alice Springs - so as to give participants the possibility to engage in a strong relation to the desert environment. Concurrent to the workshop, Triple Alice 1st Ripple Forum and Laboratory opens the space for multi -disciplinary practices of indigenous and non - indigenous artists from the Northern Territory with an informal seminar by writers, theorists and local guest speakers. This active inter - texture parallel to the intense physical practice of the workshop invites questions around the nature of space, body and performance practice as well as the function of different disciplines and media to this.

The laboratory took place at Hamilton Downs, and old homestead situated in the MacDonnell Ranges. The workshop ran everyday from the 20th September to the 10th October and, dependant on weather conditions, working hours were from early morning until late afternoon with a long break during the middle of the day. Macrobiotic meals were prepared by our supurb caterer who not only produced fabulous food but who also ensured that the diet was sound, consistent and suited to the physical demands of the working environment.
